Sovereign Cigarettes Silk — Red Cloud

Historical context

Red Cloud's likeness circulated through American mass media for decades after his 1868 treaty campaigns. Placing him on a tobacco silk turned a still-living political figure into a collectible "American Indian" type — one of the mechanisms by which biography was flattened into brand.

Curatorial notes

The only Sovereign-branded silk currently in the Archive. Held apart from the Tokio group to keep the issuer distinction visible.
